Head Start Children Learn Electrical Safety

 

Head Start children from the Griffith Creek and Palmer communities in Marion and Grundy counties had a chance to meet “Louie, the Lightning Bug” on Wednesday morning, September 12, at the Head Start Center in Griffith Creek.

 

Two classrooms of children got to meet Louie, as well as his friends, linemen Keith Barnette and Dean Cartwright. Both work for SVEC, the Sequatchie Valley Electric Cooperative. While Barnette raised “the bucket truck” high in the air above the center then lower it again, Cartwright talked with the children about electrical safety. He also showed them some of the personal protective equipment that linemen use on their job.

 

Playing the part of “Louie” was Belinda Slatton, mother of  Emily and Trieana Slatton who attend the Center. Following the visit by Louie and the linemen, SVEC communications specialist Kathy Black read the children stories in their classrooms.
